The year is 1956. Advertising copywriter Emmi Creola (Sarah Spale) is tasked with marketing the products of a cooking oil company and, against the resistance of her agency, invents the fictional character Betty Bossi. The “nation's cook and housewife” soon becomes popular and receives lots of fan mail. Many people believe that Ms. Bossi actually exists. Emmi, who had previously been rather reserved, unexpectedly finds herself in the public spotlight. Her new celebrity life as a Swiss cooking icon is exciting, but also exhausting. Emmi battles envy and resentment from her male colleagues at the agency and tries to continue being a loving mother and wife at home – just like her fictional character. Emmi becomes increasingly torn between her career and her family. With touching moments and subtle humor, HALLO BETTY paints a colorful picture of the customs of the time.
