873 AD: Banished by their own king, a horde of fearless Vikings set course for Britain. Their destination: the monastery of Lindisfarne with its gold treasures, which they want to plunder under their reckless leader Asbjörn (Tom Hopper) in order to buy their freedom from the imposed ban. Surprised by a heavy storm, however, their dragon boat is wrecked on the rocks off the Scottish coast. Stranded in enemy territory, their only chance is to save themselves in the Danelag, a remote Viking settlement. On their arduous journey through the Highlands, the warriors capture Lady Inghean (Charlie Murphy), the courageous daughter of the Scottish King Dunchaid (Danny Keogh). The exiles sense their chance for a considerable ransom. But Dunchaid sends his notorious “wolf pack” after the kidnappers. This mercenary troop is feared throughout the country for its cruelty. Only with the help of the mysterious monk Conall (Ryan Kwanten) do the tough Northmen escape the attacks of the determined “wolves” and their merciless leader Hjorr (Ed Skrein) at the very last moment. Conall leads the Vikings along the long-forgotten “Path of the Serpent”, the only safe route to Danelang. A merciless race against time begins - a hunt for life and death.
